Safety and Environmental Training

Training to Keep you Safe, On the Job, and Certified to Work

The MSU Center for Continuing Education offers a variety of Asbestos, Lead-Based Paint trainings that are open to the public through its Safety & Environmental Training program. The program was established in 1990, pursuant Miss. Code Ann. 37-138-1 with the designation of Mississippi State University by the Institutions of Higher Learning as the state’s sole asbestos training provider.

Asbestos Awareness and Asbestos Operations & Maintenance courses are offered on demand. These courses are designed to meet the requirements of AHERA (40 CFR 763.92), which requires all public and private K-12 school custodial and maintenance staff that work in a building that contains asbestos to receive at least 2 hours of awareness training. If you are interested in scheduling a class, please call 662-325-5002 or email cce@lists.msstate.edu.

All regulations promulgated by the commission pursuant to this chapter shall not be effective until November 1, 1990.  By October 1, 1989, the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning shall designate a university which may offer all training courses set forth in the regulations and accreditation plan and such university may charge reasonable fees to offset costs of the courses offered.  The commission shall not approve any training courses offered in Mississippi other than those courses offered at the designated university and those certified abatement worker courses that have received Environmental Protection Agency approval pursuant to Section III of Appendix C to Title 40, Part 763, Subpart E, of the Code of Federal Regulations.
