Approval Process

How do programs qualify for CEU’s
For a specific program or course to be eligible for approval of CEU’s, the program: 

  • Must be planned to fulfill a specific educational need.
  • Must have a clear purpose and objective
  • Must have qualified instructional personnel directly involved in conducting the educational activity.
  • Must have specific performance requirements for the awarding of CEU’s to participants established prior to the offering of the program.
  • Must have an evaluation process.

What are the guidelines and procedures for obtaining CEU qualification?

  • All programs receiving CEU’s must be educational and held in an organized, structured setting.

  • Course approval must be granted by the Division of Academic Outreach and Continuing Education prior to the CEU’s being advertised. CEU APPROVAL FORM. A Continuing Education Unit Approval Form must be completed by the department requesting the CEU’s.  A complete agenda, brief vitas on instructors, program information, sample evaluation form, and any other pertinent material should be attached. 
  • The number of CEU’s awarded is determined by the actual instructional time.  Registration periods, breaks, and lunches are excluded.  CEU’s are awarded based on one CEU for 10 instructional hours.  Six hours will earn 0.6 CEU’s while 10-1/2 hours will earn one CEU.  A part of an hour cannot be counted.  The number of CEU’s to be awarded will be determined by MSU based on the program agenda. 

How long does it take for programs to qualify for CEU’s?
Once all the required information is provided, programs can usually be approved for CEU’s within one week
           

Does it cost for programs to be approved for CEUs?

  • For non-MSU entities, there is a $25 course fee to cover the costs associated with listing the course in the database and on the web page.
  • There is a filing charge per participant when points are awarded. 

What programs are eligible for CEU’s?

  • Professional continuing education programs in –service training for specific audiences.
  • License renewal programs
  • Seminars
  • Workshops
  • Short courses
  • Paraprofessional training programs
  • Certificate programs

What are ineligible programs?

  • Social events
  • Athletic events
  • Programs casually related to educational objectives
  • Entertainment
  • Pre-examination preparation program
